Breeder Spotlight – Joe & Rose DeMeyer

The 2007 Breeder of Distinction Award was earned by Joe & Rose DeMeyer of Redmond, Oregon. The Juniper-Haven prefix is well-known in the West. The DeMeyer family has bred numerous Excellent cows, Futurity winners, Dams of Merit, Gold Medal Dams and has qualified for the Progressive Breeder Award for 12 years. Joe & Rose have sold the milking herd now, but continue working with some great cow families and are raising heifers while still enjoying their semi-retirement. Congratulations to Joe & Rose!

The Oregon Main Event Sale was held Friday July 11th in Tillamook.  47 live Holstein lots averaged $4493 and 4 Brown Swiss lots averaged $3253.  The silent auction consisting of 16 embryo packages and picks averaged $3028.  High seller was Miss Durable Leann, an 87 pt. Durham Junior 3 year old.  She was consigned by Robert Soares and Leo Durrer of Modesto, Ca and was purchased for @27,500 by the Leann Syndicate.  Second high seller was Janestead A Shotle Love-et consigned by james Janes and Bill Askew of Malin, Oregon.  This Shottle daughter with a CTPI of +1879M sold for $10,700 to Donnie Averill of Tillamook, Oregon.

The top seller in the Silent Auction was Lot 61, a 1st choice female sired by Armstead out of the 90 pt. Nors Bianca Outside Brita cow.  She was consigned by Regancrest and Norbert & Aron Lovestuen of Waukon, Iowa and was purchased for $5900 by Matt Alvernaz of Livingston, California.

The 2008 Kathy Vermilyea Memorial Scholarship
winners were chosen at the Junior Sale on May 10th.  This year’s recipients receive cash to purchase a Holstein project heifer and this years winners were Jessica Budge, Courtney Budge, and Staci Sherer.



The juniors held a sale on May 10th at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds.  This sale coincided with the Oregon Jersey Junior Sale.  Only junior members could bid and they sold nine head with an average of $1400. 






Jessica and Courtney Budge attended National Holstein Convention.  Oregon was proud to have these sister represent them and we congratulate them on their accomplishments.  Congratulations to Jessica who placed 2nd in the National Jr. Speaking Contest- Intermediate Division and to Courtney who placed in the top 6 for the Junior Division.
