September 6th  Western National Holstein Show in Salem, OR  Judge Randy Fraser

2009 Annual Meeting
was held at the Spirit Mountain Casino on Dec. 5th. There were many members present and there was a full program with President Jake Vanderstool presiding. Some of the highlights was a wonderful program, “Dairy Farming in Africa” presented by Scott Ruby.
HFAA Northern California Field Rep., Dennis Edlund, gave a update on Holstein info and Agritech. Elections were held for two board positions. Awards were handed out and committee reports were given.
There was a lot of great door prizes and the silent auction was a hit, once again. Thanks to all of the members that participated in the auction and to the semen salesman that donated product to raise money for our association.

(left Pres. Jake Vanderstool and HFAA rep Dennis Edlund.)
Thanks to State Secretary, Ida Ruby for her endless efforts to care for every detail of our activities. Everyone appreciates Ida’s work. If you were unable to attend and have questions, feel free to contact a board member.

2010 Holstein Futurity will be held on July 9th at the All-Oregon Holstein Show! Juniors

April 29 was the first annual Junior Field Day & Sale hosted by Bob-Cat Holsteins.

Over 55 members attended the event.  The morning started with donuts supplied by Land O’Lakes sales rep Jim Mahannah and then a dairy tour given by Jodi Coppini.  Jodi and her family answered questions about their dairy operation and their success in the show ring. Everyone really enjoyed the morning and learned a lot also.  The Oregon Association would like to extend a huge Thank You to the Coppini Family for their hospitality.

Interviews took place for the Kathy Jo Vermilyea Memorial scholarship and then lunch was served.

The afternoon began with our State Vice-President,  Allan Hanselman, announcing the scholarship winners.  This years winners (L-R) were Cherish Ingram of Tillamook, Chris Jansen of Hillsboro and Erika Fjarlie of Tillamook.  These junior members received money towards the purchase of a Holstein calf.

The Oregon Juniors Sale consisted of 7 head. Each junior buyer received a sack of calf grain supplied by our CHS sales rep Jim Weitstein.   It was a successful day and plans are underway to make the Junior Field Day and Sale event a bigger event next year.  Thanks for all that were involved.
